What is Evermerge: Villains?
Every fairy tale Hero has a villainous counterpart. The Villains are tired of waiting in the wings - unlock their side of the story with a classic EverMerge twist. With the new Villains update, delve into Villain’s lairs, defeat their Minions in all-new puzzle gameplay, and get to the bottom of the origin of the fog. In the process, you’ll unlock Villains as new cosmetic skins for your Hero characters and their castles!
The Fog hasn’t just affected the land and Heroes of EverMerge, it’s also taken the Villains from their stories. It appears the Villains were hit even harder than the Heroes! Instead of just losing their memories, they’ve been broken into fragments of their true selves and are trapped in ever-shifting magical echoes of their lairs. If you want to find out what happened, you’ll have to get them out, merge to make them whole again, and restore the Villains to the EverMerge story!
Getting Started
To begin playing Villains, you’ll need to have Red Riding Hood unlocked on the main island. Keep an eye out for a new fog added near the dock to Paradise Cove!
When you unlock this new fog, there’s one thing inside: the Magic Portal!
Powering the Portal will require a small payment of coins and magic – then its straight on into the Villain’s lair!
Be quick- you’ll only have 30 minutes to beat the Villain before the portal closes!
Villain Lair Events
When you enter a Villain Lair, there’s several new things going on to pay attention to! Your goal is to get past the Villains’ Minions, collect Keys to open more rooms, and eventually confront the Villain themselves! To do this, you have an all-new tool: Glitter Bombs! Packed with pixie dust, Glitter Bombs will cancel out wicked magic, and un-merge Minions into harmless forms. They are the fourth and final step of a short merge chain.
Using Glitter Bombs
- Drag a Glitter Bomb to place it.
- Glitter Bombs can affect all Minions and Obstacles immediately adjacent to it in a cross pattern.
- Place it in a spot where you can hit as many as possible!
- Once it’s where you want it, tap on it again to prime it.
- When primed, there’s a confirmation button to detonate it. Tapping again on the bomb will also detonate it. To cancel, tap anywhere else.
Any obstacles hit by a Glitter Bomb will be chopped one step, while Minions will shrink to a smaller form, or if they’re already the smallest size, they’ll vanish! (Probably sent to a better place by all that fairy dust magic!)
Meeting Minions
Each Villain has their own Minions. The first ones you’ll encounter are crafty Crochet Golems, servants of the wicked fairy, Cara.
Minions stand between you and progressing through the lair! Don’t worry - they won’t hurt you, they’re just in the way!
In each room of the lair, one Minion is hiding the Key that will clear the fog off from the next room.
Your job is to defeat Minions using your new Glitter Bombs until you find the key! You won’t need to clean up leftover Minions in a room; collecting the key will do that for you! The Minions won’t make it easy, though. They move!
One of the first things you’ll notice is that some Minions will have an arrow drawn under their feet, pointing in the direction of an adjacent tile.
This means the Minion will move soon, in the direction the arrow is pointing.
Minions move after you:
- Open a chest
- Merge pieces
- Use a Glitter Bomb
- Get pieces from the Portal
After these actions, Minions that telegraph their movement will shift; and other Minions may decide they’re going to shift and will indicate their intentions via the arrows. The longer a Minion goes without moving, the more likely it is to want to move as soon as it has an open space to which it can shift.
- This means that if you’re not careful, Minions will spread out all over and it will be difficult to hit multiple with a Glitter Bomb.
- However, Minions can only move into open spaces. So, you can block other spaces off and get them to move only in the direction you’d like them to.
- With careful planning, you can get Minions to move together into perfect patterns for your Glitter Bombs!
Remember, one Minion in each room is hiding the key! There’s no way to tell which one it is until you defeat them, at which point it’ll drop to the ground.
- Tap the key to collect it and open up the next room!
- Your goal is to find the key in each room until you reach the Villain at the end and defeat them!
The Other Side of the Portal
Remember that portal you came in from? Well, it’s still there, at least until time runs out and it sucks you back to safety!
For a little bit of energy, you can activate the portal just like you would a mine, and some pieces to merge will pop out! Of course, you’ll get more pieces from defeating Minions and chopping Obstacles inside the lair, but sometimes activating the portal is helpful even to trigger Minions to move.
Confronting the Villain
When you get to the end of the Lair, the Villain will be waiting for you! The Fog has shattered them into echoes of their real self, and trapped them in these evershifting reflections of their Lair.
You know what can fix that! Packed with punchy pixie power, it’s Glitter Bombs!
You’ll need to hit a Villain with five Glitter Bombs to defeat them. Once you do, they’re stunned as their memories are starting to return, and you can tap on them to claim victory in the Lair Event!
Claiming your Spoils
Back on Main Island, you earn your reward: Villain Chests!
You’ve successfully pulled fragments of the Villain out into the real EverMerge world inside of these chests. Open them to get Villain merge chain pieces!
Earning the Villain: Cosmetic Skins
Finish the Villain’s merge chain and something special happens: You see, EverMerge’s Heroes and their Villains don’t get along perfectly, and even if they’re mending fences a little bit now, they don’t want to hang out together all the time!
Instead of appearing as a new character taking up space on your island, Villains appear as Character Skins for the Hero of their story.
The first Villain you’ll unlock, Cara, is a character skin for Sleeping Beauty.
Once you’ve unlocked Cara, a few things have happened:
1: Now you can choose whether you want Sleeping Beauty or Cara on your island. Don’t worry, you can switch back and forth between them whenever you like!
When you tap on Sleeping Beauty, you’ll find a new ‘Skins’ menu to open, which will let you toggle between any character skins you’ve unlocked for this Hero.
2: You’ve also unlocked Cara’s lair as a new Castle Skin for Castle Beauty! Just like the Hero skin, you can change back and forth between unlocked skins whenever you like.
3: Additionally, for every castle you unlock a Villain Lair Skin for, that castle can now level up to a maximum of 10 stars, earning more daily rewards for every additional star earned.
What’s next?
Now that you’ve unlocked Cara, you’ve found out that she wasn’t responsible for creating the Fog… but she has a lead on who was! Go back into the Portal and you’ll be facing off against Puss in Boots’ rival, the Mouse King!
To start with, Cara and the Mouse King are our first two Villains, but more are on their way! Look forward to new chapters of the EverMerge story, featuring a Villain for every Hero!
